Burlington is located in Middlesex County. As of 2010, the population was 24,498. Burlington is bordered by Bedford, Billerica, Wilmington, Woburn and Lexington.  The 500-million gallon Mill Pond Reservoir is located in the eastern part of the town.


Burlington is 11.9 square miles in size. This construcion of Route 128 kicked off an enormous expansion, and between 1955 and 1965, Burlington was considered the fastest growing town in the state of Massachusetts. In one five-year period, its population tripled as residential and commercial retail developments exploded creating the town's present character.


It is a relatively well-positioned town in the state — located at the intersection of Interstate 95 and US 3, Burlington is just 20 minutes from Boston, half an hour from New Hampshire, and an hour from Rhode Island.  A stretch of Route 128 including Burlington is considered the technology center of the Northeastern U.S.
